Job Description: |
| Have you ever wanted to get paid to live in Europe? Would you like to spend a year gaining valuable teaching experience in a public school while living in a country steeped in history and blessed with a Mediterranean climate? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of families and school children living in an emerging democracy located in the crossroads of civilization? Interested in living in a country with castles and cathedrals dating back to the fourth century, inhabited by some of the most hospitable and friendly people on earth? Are hobbies like skiing, hiking, horseback riding and suntanning on the shores of a European sea something you see yourself doing for the next year?Footprints Recruiting has embarked on a groundbreaking project with the government of the Republic of Georgia to place 500+ teachers in public schools across this remarkable country by the beginning of September, 2010. Not to be confused with the state of Georgia in the USA, the Republic of Georgia is a country the size of South Carolina located on the shores of the Black Sea, on the same latitude as Italy. A former part of the Soviet Union, Georgia is striving to build a thriving democracy and as a part of this endeavor the Georgian government is hiring up to 1,000 English teachers through Footprints in 2010 and 2011 to work in public schools across the country. Two Georgian provinces are currently occupied by Russian forces - however no teachers will be placed in or near these regions. Georgia is a safe and stable country to live in. One of the co-owners of Footprints recently returned from a working trip to Georgia to sign the contract, and his expectations were exceeded in every way. Georgia is one of the Europe's true bargains, but word is starting to get out - major hotel chains are rapidly developing the tourism sector. References from individuals living in Georgia are available to applicants once they have submitted their paperwork.Initial contracts are for two semesters. Teachers will receive free round trip tickets to and from their home country (pre-paid by the Georgian government), as well as another round trip ticket to go home during the holiday season for a month. Teachers will live with Georgian families - all teachers have their own room and in some cases their own bathroom. All homestay situations have been screened and vetted by the Georgian government - almost all have internet connections available and are walking distance access to schools. The salary is 500 Georgia Lari (GEL) (roughly USD 300) per month. While this may not seem like a lot, keep in mind that Georgia is an extremely affordable country - a meal of cheese and bread and wine and meat dishes at a nice restaurant is under USD 10. A beer is around 1 USD and a family of four typically spends 75 dollars a week on groceries. This is more than enough to live on in Georgia - native teachers will get paid more than local Georgian teachers. In addition, teachers have no other expenses - airfare, accommodation, health insurance and food are all included and the salary is tax free. Native English speaking foreign English teachers will be placed in schools with other native English teachers where each foreign English teacher will be assigned to 2-5 other local Georgian English teachers to plan and support the English classes. This is the only opportunity Footprints represents where ALL fluent English speaking teachers are welcome to apply AND teachers are not required to have a degree! Teachers with both two and four year degrees are welcome to apply. This is a totally unique opportunity - get off the beaten path and make a difference in your life and others - teach in Georgia! |
