Clear the Path of Visa Problems
I recently read an article in The Pie Newsletter (for us international educators) that echos feedback from students in our area of Leeds. Many students have not only expressed an increased interest in the other English speaking nations but have also mentioned their friends still overseas and their loss of interest due to the perceived difficulty in visa application as well as the remarkable increase in study fees at university colleges.
The enquiries from some of our students regarding higher education have been pointing to overseas universities. Approaching completion of our English programmes, they see a cliff face of costs and procedures ahead of them in the UK.
English education WAS one of our surviving export assets. We must keep the path open before the way is lost in the overgrowth of complex and costly barriers while the paved way stretches to other countries.
Education should not become the whipped dog, forced to rely on cannibalism of state funding in education with the odd morsel of healthy external economics.
AND I SAY TO ANYONE WANTING TO COME FROM A VISA COUNTRY: "DON'T GIVE UP ON THE UK! OVER 70% OF 5000 STUDENTS SAID VISA APPLICATION WAS NOT AS DIFFICULT AS THE NEWSPAPERS WOULD HAVE YOU THINK!!!"
