Description of Teaching Job - School Overview

The English Instructor’s purpose is to accelerate the learner’s learning or acquisition of the English language as defined by World Experience. The English Instructor may also serve as a liaison between the learner, other instructors, and Representatives of the company financing the classes. The Instructor will provide the learner with the necessary skills to become proficient in English through grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening. With a main focus on speaking and listening.

Primary Responsibilities: - Prepare materials and classrooms for lessons. - Implement all the procedures of the program as prescribed in World Experience teaching policies. - Establish clear objectives for all lessons, and communicate those objectives to the learners, and to the Language Department Coordinator when requested. - Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides learners with the opportunity to observe, question, and investigate. - Observe and evaluate learners' work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement. - Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet learners' varying needs, abilities, and interests. - Incorporate collaborative grouping in lessons so that learners are speaking with each other. - Maintain accurate and complete learner records as required by administrative policies. - Work with learners and staff to coordinate schedules and to accommodate availabilities as much as possible. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: - Express an understanding and appreciation for other cultures and languages and for the potential challenges that English learners face when they are new to a language. - Serve as a model of the potentialities of dual languages and dual or multi-cultural backgrounds. - Possess the ability to perform both formal and informal English language assessments. - Apply knowledge of instructional strategies, compensatory skills, and curriculum to foster the academic development of each learner according to the learner’s capacity for growth. - Where useful and possible, use French to help learners develop their store of background knowledge and vocabulary for foundational development. - Plan a program of study that, to the extent possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of learners.

Qualifications: - Native English-speaker. - Understands and speaks a minimum of French. - Experience living abroad and working in varying cultural contexts. - Equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree required. - Equivalent of a Masters degree preferred. - Citizenship, residency or work VISA in France or the European Union required. - Valid driver’s license in France or the European Union. - A criminal record check will be conducted. - Willingness to apply oneself in a stimulating team-oriented environment, with emphasis on the positive aspects of life-long learning.

Type of Contract: - Instructors will be required to declare “auto entrepreneur” status in France - Guarantee of 1900 Euros per month for 35 hours of teaching. - Each instructor is required to teach three weekday evenings and every Saturday. - Possibility to pick-up extra hours outside of one’s minimum guarantee. - Instructor will take care of his or her own housing in Guadeloupe, as well as transportation to and from the center. - Five weeks paid vacation.
