Description of Teaching Job - School Overview

SKIP is a Charity working with disadvantaged families in the El Porvenir area of Trujillo, Peru. We need to recruit Coordinator for the English Teaching Programme. We have a really great team of English teachers, usually numbering around 8 people. We provide a high level of support for those who need it, we have a written curriculum. Team teaching is also used, particularly in the larger classes and for teachers who do not have experience and prefer to plan their lessons with someone else. SKIP provides English lessons in two public schools in the El Porvenir area close to where the office is located. In return for providing these lessons, we are given discounts for SKIP children who attend those schools. We also provide lessons for the SKIP kids at our own community centre and have a small adult teaching programme for SKIP volunteers wanting to learn English. The English Teaching Coordinator is responsible for training and supporting the English teaching volunteers, observing lessons and providing feedback, structuring and developing the curriculum and liaising with the public schools. We need an experienced EFL teacher with a minimum of two years teaching experience specifically with children. Supervisory experience is preferred, but not essential. An intermediate level of Spanish will be useful in communication with the public schools but we may be able to work around this if needs must. We need people to be able to commit to ideally a minimum of 6 months volunteering with us so that we can minimise volunteer turnover. We are able to offer accommodation with this post – but volunteers will need to cover all the rest of their costs.
